VALUES OF A GOOD WIFE..

The old Puritans had these quaint rules for the selection of a wife.

“A good wife should be like three things, which three things she should not be like.

“She should be like a snail to keep within the house; but she should not be like a snail to carry all she has in her back.

“She should be an echo to answer when she is called, but she should not be like an echo always to have the last word.

“She should be like a town-clock keeping regular time, but she should not be like a clock that is heard all over the town.”
